Teaching English Language in Yuen Long

Opening Classrooms for Lesson Observation and Reflection

On November 26th and 27th, there was a professional sharing activity held in Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long), in which English teachers of the school opened their classrooms and over 30 teachers from the same district joined. This two-day sharing was co-organized by the Education Bureau and Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long).

Five teachers opened their classrooms and shared their teaching ideas.New teaching ideas like the activity approach and organizing a forum with students playing different roles were used.Difficult learning problems, like writing argumentations, problem-solving, coming up with the right ideas and suggestions, retaining what is learnt and book selection for SBA, which have been rarely dealt with were targeted.

All the ideas shared are all very stimulating. It is of course not only a learning opportunity for the students but also a precious occasion for the teachers from different schools to share their lesson design, their teaching strategies and skills. This is definitely a rewarding experience for all the participants and the teachers who opened their classrooms.

If something has to be rewarding, usually, a lot of barriers have to be overcome.Teachers joining the programme might have given up some of their own precious lesson time.Teachers opening their classrooms had to do lots of painstaking preparation. In spite of the sacrifice, it is worth doing.Sharing is one of the many steps we have to take in order to excel in teaching.
